NYFW—Sleet, Shows & Shopping

Day 2 of NYFW for me was really Day 4 for overall NYFW. It was a Sunday and when I awoke and saw it raining snow and sleet and just a tiny bit of hail I thought, what the fuck. I already knew I’d be wearing sneakers on this day, cause wearing heels nearly killed me the day before (and I only went to 1 show). Thankfully I went to the Six:02 Grand Opening in Times Square last Wednesday and was blessed with a gift card to shop to my hearts content. I ended up buying two pair of Nikes, these Huarache’s spoke to me and I scooped them up quick. I paired them with another Tibi skirt score from their recent sample sale, an American Apparel Body Suit and a Dezzal Wool Coat. To top it off, I rocked my envelope clutch that I picked up at Century 21 the day before. I grabbed my umbrella and headed downtown for my first showroom visit at Rosetta Getty.

I’ve been a fan of Rosetta Getty for awhile. I love their Fall 2014 Collection especially the knotted long dress and top. Rosetta Getty is always luxe, fresh and beautifully wearable. The Resort 2017 Collection and the Pre Fall 2017 Collection solidified Rosetta Getty for me as a brand I need in my wardrobe. I took the ride down to their studio and opened a crisp white door to view the Rosetta Getty Fall 2017 Collection. The first thing I noted was the installation that displayed the clothing. It was really cool and chic. I watched on Rosetta Getty’s instagram before the visit of the installation being built. They worked with artist Alicja Kwade to create a beautiful display. It was modern and unique. I especially loved the copper colored rails and heavy blue velvet curtain. I must say that the thing about this collection that stood out the most for me was the footwear. I sincerely hope every piece gets put into production because Rosetta Getty is right on the money with their incredible footwear. I spent a good chuck of time squatting down to get get the perfect photos for my instastories. There were lots of great flats and slides, my favorite being these fury slide ons. The collection was cozy, wearable and had an understated chicness that I loved. After taking copious amounts of photos, I headed out to get a quick bite to eat at Buvette.

I’ve been coming for about 2 years and I always order the same thing: croissants with butter and jam, blood orange juice and the most delicious eggs on toast with parmesan cheese and thinly sliced prosciutto. It just melts in your mouth and thats what I needed after walking through slushy rain to get to my car. Buvette is charming and always packed to the gills on a weekend. They also don’t take reservations so it’s quicker to get a seat if you’re alone at the bar which is what I did. I enjoyed every morsel of my brunch, paid my $30 check (hey perfection aint cheap) and hailed a cab to my next show of the day, Verdad at Chelsea Piers. This was the first collection of LA designer Louis Verdad to show at New York Fashion Week and Verdad’s second collection. One word comes to mind when I think back to this collection: Outerwear. The outerwear was simply amazing and I spent a lot of time oohing and awing at the expert tailoring of glossy leather jackets. Verdad describes his collections as a marriage between LA and New York, with New York precision and LA lifestyle. His clothing does just that. I purposely positioned myself near the exit because I knew as soon as the designer did his walk, I’d be bolting out of there to head to another show and score it worked out perfectly. I was the 3rd person outta that venue and into a cab and off to Skylight to the Leanne Marshall show.

I stopped and posed for a few pictures on my way into Skylight but quickly kept it moving thanks to the sleeting snow. This was my first time at Skylight and I actually really loved it. The hub is a really amazing and exciting place abuzz with fashion folk and fashion talk and all kinds of things to see and do. But I didn’t have time to take it all in as I was already late but thought I’d be ok since I had a seat. On my way in I ran into Julee, fashion & beauty editor at Essence who I hadn’t seen in a good while and we chatted for a bit before making our way to our seats. When I got to my seat there were already people there. They had no problems moving though and I took my seat. I also ran into Nima Ford there. Right before the show started none other than Real Housewife of Atlanta Phaedra Parks came and sat in front of me. That was pretty cool being that I had just gotten myself caught up on RHOA not two days before! Leanne Marshall does what she does with occasion dresses. Everything was beautiful and flowing and shimmering and I especially loved a lace, layered skirt.

After the show I grabbed a coffee and hung out in the very cozy lounge while doing some instagraming. I was high off the free caffeine and all of the fashions I’d been seeing and I had a sudden urge to shop. I left the venue and hailed a cab to & Other Stories in search of these shoes in my size. But atlas they had sold out. So I then walked a few blocks to Zara, where I dropped $150 with ease. Then I headed over to H&M and bought a bodysuit that was final sale. I only realized later that its pretty much see through and I got lipstick on it so womp womp. I finally had to take my ass home because I had too many bags. Only once I got home, I ordered 3 pairs of shoes and an Acne skirt from The Real Real. I know. I went a little nuts. But I will be returning a few of the Zara items that didn’t quite fit, as well as the Acne skirt because my hips nearly bursts the seams. I’ll do a video haul soon! I know, gasp, a video!
