#asseenonme What I Wore Day 1 #NYFW

There used to be a time when I worked as a Physical Therapist for myself doing contract work for several companies. I could make my own schedule and I usually would take the entire New York Fashion Week off work. I’d traipse around the city in heels, running to and fro to every show. I’d forget to eat and I’d stay up into the wee hours of the morning trying to complete 3-5 show reviews timely. I’d inevitably get sick and that sickness would stay with me for weeks. I love fashion week with all my heart but this year, I’m taking an easy. I’m limiting myself to a show or two a day and spending more time to cover events. I’m handing off shows and finally giving myself a little time to actually enjoy the week.

I’m humbled that I even get invited to fashion shows but it’s seriously draining. It’s hard for a very Type-A person like me to hand over control. I’ve been reading a lot about entrepreneurs and how in order to grow they had to stick with what they knew and be willing and able to hand over aspects of their business to others who were simply better at it. I’m looking to do the same with this space and my brand. Which means, refocusing on what you all really want and what I really want. I know you all come to this space for inspiration and a good story. So that’s what I’m going to give you this fashion week. The things that really interest me. And not just going to shows for the sake of saying I was there. But really picking and choosing the things that interest me and that I will have more to say about other than this show was this and that show was that.

Quite frankly sometimes the best seat in the house is right at your computer screen. So just know if you see a show review here, it’s because I genuinely love that designer or brand. But I think this season’s gonna be all about events. On Tuesday evening I attended a conversation at Phillip Lim’s store, titled Race, Politics and Diversity in Fashion. It was by far the most enlightening and inspiring fashion event I’ve ever attended. It was put together by the Fashion For All Foundation (FFA) which is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote equality and diversity through education and empowerment in the fashion industry. The FFA foundation was founded by Hannah Stoudemire and came into existence when Hannah led a Silent Demonstration protesting unlawful killings by police officers. The demonstration took place during NYFW Men’s Shows (July 2016) outside of Skylight Clarkson. The conversation was amazing and I was on my feet listening intently for 2 hours. I’ll be posting a short video in a few days of the event that you can check out! For now I’m on my way to my first ever, Texture on The Runway Fashion Show! Make sure to check it out on my instastories!

I totally agree with the difficulty of not doing everything – I am the same way. It’s really hard for me to hand off things, even that I hate doing because I need to know it’s being done right. But I’m trying to get better. **Also, I love this outfit, especially the wrap skirt <3
