This New York Fashion Week was the stuff dreams were made of. Of course the weather was awful with it being cold and rainy almost every day but other than that I had such an amazing time catching up with friends, watching the runways and seeing what’s going to be hitting the shelves in a few months and having my fill of events. I wanted to do a quick recap of my week and what I wore so you all can have an easier time of referencing everything all in one place. But if you haven’t yet please check out these 4 New York Fashion Week Videos I posted on my YouTube Channel: What I’m Wearing to NYFW, Come with me to NYFW Vlog 1, Come with me to NYFW Vlog 2 and What Everyone Is Wearing to New York Fashion Week.
HARLEM’S FASHION ROW THE PRELUDE EVENT
WHAT I WORE: Something by Sonjia Dress, Celine Boots SOLD OUT get dupe here
I kicked off New York Fashion Week with the Harlem’s Fashion Row The Prelude Event honoring Dapper Dan, Misa Hylton and April Walker. I went and covered the event for HFR and for Ciroc. It was an amazing evening at Sony Hall filled with all the best hip hop and R&B music, dancing and some of the strongest drinks I’ve had in a good while. The Crush On You cocktail was my absolute favorite. Harlem’s Fashion Row always comes through for designers and creators of color. It was wonderful to be in a room with such talent that has opened doors for the next generation of black creatives and designers.
DAY 1 NYFW: Hong Kong Fashion Show, Secteur 6 Fashion Show
WHAT I WORE: Rebecca Taylor Vegan Leather Jumpsuit, Jacquemus Belt Bag, Louis Vuitton Earrings, Celine Boots SOLD OUT get dupe here
Day one of New York Fashion Week I went to the Hong Kong Show which was a compilation of designers brands Heaven Please+, SUN=SUN and Harrison Wong. My favorite thing about Fashion Week is that I get super inspired. Not only by what I see on the runway but by what people are wearing to the shows. It’s also fun making lots of new fashion friends while waiting in line for shows to start. I really loved the Secteur 6 Show. They dresses where super feminine and the hats and headwear was trendy and wearable. I’d wear the entire collection. I’d actually never heard of this brand and am grateful to be invited to the show because now they are on my radar.
WHAT I WORE: Zara Dress, Loewe Belt (Size Medium), Jil Sander Boots SOLD OUT get similar here, Brinker & Eliza Necklace, & Other Stories Sunglasses and Ring, Amazon Pouch Bag
DAY 2 NYFW: Farfetch Clubhouse, Vivienne Hu, Son Jung Wan and Tia Adeola
Day two of New York Fashion Week was a busy one and was jammed packed. I started the day with Farfetch! Farfetch is one of my absolute favorite places to shop online. This is the second season they’ve had a Clubhouse to check out the latest and greatest in person from the website. I was able to pull 3 looks and shoot them throughout the weekend. They even gave me a coupon code! I hope you caught it in my YouTube Video or on my Instagram post! I had a wonderful afternoon with the Farfetch team and look forward to working with them again soon. The rest of my day consisted of fashion shows and I loved them all. It was especially wonderful to see Tia Adeola’s first fashion show. I actually own a few of her tops and wear them all the time.
SHOP MY FARFETCH LOOKS
Alice and Olivia Orange Sweater, Bottega Skirt, JW Anderson Bag, Burberry Cape, Tibi Dress, Fendi Bag, Jacquemus Dress, Farfetch Low Classic Pants, Pearl and Gold Earrings, Wandler Bag
Wearing my own Céline, Jil Sander and Derek Lam Booties all of which are sold out.
DAY 3 NYFW: Tibi Presentation, Christopher John Rogers Fashion Show, Chiara Boni Fashion Show
WHAT I WORE: Jacquemus Dress, Farfetch Pants, Derek Lam Boots SOLD OUT get similar here, Trois The label bralette, Wandler Bag, Farfetch Earrings
I was amped for day 3 because I’m a huge fan of Tibi. I love their footwear and their minimalist yet unique aesthetic. Amy Smilovic is also one of my favorite people to follow on Instastories for her in depth knowledge of how to start and maintain a successful clothing brand. Even though that’s not my lane, she is so free with her advice and I love her style. The collection was great. I loved the outerwear, the footwear and the cool gloves. Christopher John Rogers has been making waves ever since he was an intern. I worked with him previously for a Black History Month project and I’ve been a fan of his ever since. He was the shinning star of New York Fashion Week. His collection was colorful, dramatic and fun.
DAY 4 NYFW: Noon By Noor, Taoray Wang, Backstage with Aveda, Bibhu Mohapatra, Naeem Khan
WHAT I WORE: Zara Sweater, Lulus Puffer Coat, JW Anderson Cargo Pants, Bottega Veneta Mesh Pumps, Amazon Pouch Bag
This was undoubtably the busiest day for me. I started the day with 2 shows, Noon by Noor and Taoray Wang. This was my first Taoray Wang show and I loved the designs. I also got to hang out backstage with my Aveda family. You all know how much I love the Aveda Sap Moss and Nutriplenish products. I went backstage to observe and document hair for the Naeem Khan show. It’s always pretty cool to go backstage. The vibe is a bit frantic and almost electric. Getting to see how it all came together in the end on the runway was satisfying as well. The Naeem Khan show had a different vibe from any show I attended this season. Hell, Ryan Seacrest was there and there was a live band doing covers of the best 80s and 90s hits as the models walked the runway.
DAY 5 NYFW: Serena by Serena Williams
WHAT I WORE: Zara Coat, H&M Bodysuit, Alexander Wang Two Tone Jeans SOLD OUT get similar here, Manolo Blahnik Pumps
I got a little emotional on this day because I was invited to a very intimate presentation by Serena Williams that was hosted by Anna Wintour. They did a lovely chat at the beginning and then she showed her collections. There is something for everyone an of course it’s inclusive too. I couldn’t believe I was in a room with Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley and Serena Williams as well as tons of people in the industry that I admire. I even saw myself in Serena’s Instagram Video documenting the experience. This was probably the coolest day ever. I actually went home and cried I was so happy to be in that room!
H&M Dress | Loewe Belt | Wandler Boots | & Other Stories Ring, Sunglasses and Headband | Amazon Pouch Bag
Fashion Week came and went and I had a lovely time but that wasn’t the end! On Valentines Day I attended the Harlem’s Fashion Row Fashion Summit. It was a conference at google jammed packed full of presentations and conversations with people of color in the fashion industry. I learned about how to make it in fashion with YouTube content. I listened to amazing panels and meet some people who’s careers I’d been following for years. It was such an inspiring conference and it really lit a fire under my ass to keep pursuing my passions.
Thank you all for supporting my New York Fashion Week content and I can’t wait to do it all again in September! Where should I go to next, Milan or London? Let me know in the comments!
