Summer is just 3 weeks away and this weekend was more than eventful here in New York City with the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic kicking off as well as Governor’s Ball! Check out my Instastories for behind the scenes look at Day 3 of Governors Ball with Kohls! There are tons of picnics like Chicnic (hosted by my girls Deb and Rose), to the South n’ the City Picnic and of course CurlFest, the biggest Natural Hair Festival! I’m looking forward to all of these events. I scored this lovely maxi dress from my Thrift Excursion to Buffalo Exchange last month. You can check out the video Here. It came in at just $20 and I love it! It’s definitely gonna get me through a few events but now I’ve got the Maxi Dress bug and have foraged the internets for a few more that I’m looking to purchase soon too.

GET INTO MAXI DRESSES
There are 4 things to keep in mind when Maxi Dress Shopping. My top websites for shopping Maxi Dresses are: ASOS, Boohoo and Shopbop.
Material
You need something that can breath, if it’s a little sheer that’s even better. A slip skirt is a quick and easy purchase. Anything made of knitwear material will simply be too hot.
Pockets
I love a pocket. Probably because I’m adverse to carrying purses. A pocket is always a plus.
Length
Extreme maxi dresses work well for those 5’7’’ and taller. Unless you are wearing your highest heels (4-5 inches) a super long maxi can become dangerous. Nobody wants to fall in front of a bunch of people, drop and crack your phone screen and scrap your knee. (Yes, I’m speaking from experience). If you’re rocking a Maxi Dress to a picnic go with a length that works for you so you can move around (without wearing your highest heels).
Quality over Quantity
Always and forever buy pieces that will stand the test of time. Closely inspect seams and sewing. Make sure it’s a good piece and sometimes that means it’s a little pricer than the more affordable version (that will shrink after one wear).
Happy Maxi Dress Shopping!
