In 2020 I took a lot of baby steps to learn more about makeup and proper application. I walked into beauty in 2020 so I could fly in 2021. I’ve never been much of a makeup girl previously and heavily relied on the same old basic makeup look over and over. But being on YouTube more frequently and seeing myself in videos made me want to try new looks and give my viewers some options when it comes to beauty and makeup. I’m still very much learning and having fun with makeup but here are a few of my 2021 favorites thus far that I get the most compliments on.
BROWN, RED & PINK LIPSTICKS
Currently I’m heavy on the dark lip trend which works because it’s still Winter. A deep brown is sultry and mysterious and it really makes your features pop especially if you have a yellow undertone to your skin. Brown is one of the hottest trend colors of the season after all and I have 3 tried and true favorite: Revlon Hot Chocolate Matte Lipstick. It’s a warm matte brown matte with a tiny bit of sheen. It goes on smooth and has a more red and earthy undertone. Colourpop Limbo Lipstain is a true matte deep dark chocolate brown. It goes on liquid and dries extremely matte. This is currently my favorite. It almost looks black but it’s brown (much like my favorite nail polish Zoya Kateri that I always wear in winter). Last but not list is Laura Mercier Chocolate Divine Lipstick. This is a creamy dark chocolate moisturizing lipstick with high shine. The red lip I wear the most is Nars Mysterious Red Lip Pencil. It’s the perfect shade of red and it nice and matte without drying out your lips. My ultimate go to for a fun spring look is Laura Mercier Fab. It’s the perfect bright pop of matte pink and looks great on all skin tones.
FOUNDATION, CONTOURS & CONCEALERS
My favorite foundation at the moment in Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and the latest Nars Soft Matte Foundation. I love the natural look yet full coverage of the soft matte foundation in my T-Zone areas to prevent oiliness and shine mixed with the sheer glow in other areas of my face. I found that the Soft Matte foundation worked better for warm weather location like Miami while the sheer glow works better for less humid places like New York City. This foundation wears well all day long and I absolutely love the massive shade range. I am currently a mix of Macao + Bahia in Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and I use Cadiz is the Soft Matte Foundation as a highlight in my T-Zone and brighter areas of my face. I’ve even gotten a bit into contouring as well. I don’t do too much but I absolutely love Fenty Beauty Coco Naughty Sun Stalk’r as a warm sun kissed, I just got back from the Caribbean type of contour and the Fenty Match Stix in Espresso for a more defined contour. I don’t use too much concealer but when I do my brows and want a good defined look and line my brows with Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer and drag it down onto my eyelids for a nice base for my eyeshadow.
EYE MAKEUP, BLUSH & HIGHLIGHTS
When it comes to eye makeup I go big but usually keep it to one color. I’ve very much a red eyeshadow type of girl so I love Makeup Forever Eyeshadow in Tomato and Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Tunnel. Those are my two go-tos and I often use a little Laura Mercier Cavier Chrome Stick in Cocoa (a deep chocolate brown) for a more sultry look in the crease of my eyelids. For my brows Sephora Retractable Brown Pencil in Granite is perfect for giving my brows more thickness and definition. When it comes to my lashes I have 2 favorites: Benefits Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara and Lancome Lash Idole. Both give my lashes massive volume and length since I never wear false lashes. For blush I love very deep pigmented hues and Nars Wanted II Cheek palette gives me everything I need. For a very natural highlight I love a bit of Laura Mercier Translucent Powder in Honey.
There you have it! All of my makeup favorites for 2021. Drop your favorites down below in the comments. I’m always looking to try new things!
